Procession is a song by New Order, and the second single that New Order ever released. It is regarded as an intermediate between Joy Division and New Order. Everything's Gone Green has always been its B-side. It's given the FAC number of 53. A lyric video for it was released on New Order's YouTube channel on 27 May 2022, ironically with the incorrect lyrics.
Background
Procession has its lyrics written by Stephen Morris, according to Peter Hook, Morris also is the main composer of it,
Gillian Gilbert also speaks with vocalist Bernard Sumner in this single during the choruses.
Procession, along with Everything's Gone Green, it's B-side which will eventually turn out to be the next single, and tracks from Movement, was recorded in 1981.
The Procession artwork has different colours (see gallery below) while some labels are reversed. The artwork represents "community". Supposedly, the several releases were due to record executives not deciding on one colour, and instead released them all.
Procession was included on the 1981-1982 EP, as well as the compilations Substance 1987 (though, it is unique being the only exclusively 7" song and for being on the "B-Sides" disc while being a purely A-side) and Singles.
